  • Educação e Cocriação no Metaverso numa abordagem mista
Publication .
Publication . Azevedo, António Manuel Tavares; Mendes Ribeiro Eira, Paulo Alexandre; Lourenço, Carla; Almeida, Marisa
Introduction: Gymnastics contributes to the education and development of children, as well as in the various proposals associated with Physical Education (PE) in Elementary School. These activities allow self-confidence and enthusiasm, reflected on children´s performance, persistence, well-being, self-esteem and their ability to concentrate. Objectives: To assess the importance of technical activities for the motor development and education of children and whether schools promote and create spaces for the development of these activities. Methods: The study group comprises 2 distinct sets, totaling 36 children. The BOT2 motor proficiency test was used and, later, descriptive and inferential analysis of the data was used using the 28th version 28 of Statistical Software SPSS. Results: Significant differences were evidenced between groups regarding the degree of fine motor precision, fine motor integration and manual dexterity. Conclusion: Gymnastics contributes to children´s cross-sectional development, associated with numerous biopsychosocial benefits. Its activities developed in school, through PE, allow the recreation of gestures and other elements in various contexts, especially in the self-directed activities of school playgrounds. PE plays a crucial role in children´s social integration and, Gymnastics in particular, makes them a more active and conscious citizen, also providing body autonomy and increased capacity for expression in groups.
  • Maximization and optimization in sports organizations
Publication . Azevedo, António Manuel Tavares; Mendes Ribeiro Eira, Paulo Alexandre
Introduction: The importance of the study of organizations as social entities of human development and as fundamental agents of change and evolution, that is, as true institutions, leads to the need for their research in the context of Sport. Objetive: This study aims to analyze the appreciation that sports organizations attribute to the principles of Maximization and Optimization. Methods: Azevedo's institutional analysis questionnaire (2014) was used to assess the degree of agreement of sports communities, and organizations were later characterized in typological quadrants according to Figueiredo's mesoscopic analysis model (2006). The study included 154 respondents, belonging to and distributed by the 24 local sports organizations of Viseu’s district and with different positions in their hierarchical structures. Results: The results reveal significant differences in the valuation attributed to both the Maximize pole and the Optimization pole, as well as the integration of organizations into typologies from 1st to 4th quadrants, according to their preferences. Conclusion: The intentions of sports communities aim to regulate and provide stability to organizational social and sports behavior, so as to be accepted and recognized by their peers.
Publication . Brocardo, Joana; Vale, Isabel; Menezes, Luís
This article analyses the papers published in Quadrante between 1992-2021 that focus on the mathematical processes of Problem Solving, Reasoning, Communication, and Modelling. The analysis was grounded on 102 papers associated with keywords related to each of those themes, leading to subcategories of analysis. We notice the relevance of the tasks in supporting the learning of these processes, while characteristics that should be present in their design are proposed. It becomes clear the importance of the way the teacher designs, explores and manages classroom interactions and a tension is identified between exploratory and direct approaches for teaching mathematics. The idea that problem solving is an important part of what it means to teach and learn, either as a skill, as a content, and/or as a teaching/learning methodology, is underlined, and its demanding nature is noted; several ideas are also suggested to promote problem solving teaching practice. The understanding of reasoning as not being limited to deductive reasoning and the discussion about the characteristics and/or potentialities of reasoning associated with multiple mathematical topics is highlighted; moreover, characteristics associated with proof, justification and generalization are proposed. It is also emphasized that mathematical modelling experiences can support learning, stressing the importance of using different technological tools. Keywords: mathematical problem solving; mathematical reasoning; mathematical communication; mathematical modelling.
  • All My Independent Women: An Art Network on Gender Issues
Publication . Sousa, Catarina Carneiro de; Cruz, Carla
All My Independent Women (AMIW) is an ongoing artistic project based on the debate around gender issues. Its primary aim is to bring to light feminist practices, underrepresented in the Portuguese context. This project was initiated in Portugal but expanded beyond national borders, and now takes place irregularly in various parts of the world. In this article, we will focus on the importance of this international network that grows each year and the way the Internet enhances this process. The several editions have taken the form of art exhibitions that materialize the collective reading of Portuguese feminist books — first “Dicionário da Crítica Feminista / Dictionary of Feminist Criticism” and later, “Novas Cartas Portuguesas / New Portuguese Letters”, both milestones of Portuguese feminist thought. However, the project went beyond the conventional exhibition format by expanding itself in cyberspace, through the use of social media and online virtual environments: the metaverse.
  • Kromosomer – an Experience in Shared Creative Work and Expression
Publication . Sousa, Catarina Carneiro de; Dahlsveen, Heidi
This article is a reflection on the Kromosomer project, a storytelling performance held in both physical and virtual worlds, which was implemented and disseminated through digital, virtual and social media. The aim of the whole project was to search for an expression that could combine physical experience with virtual world. The project was also looking at how to deal with social inclusion. The motto for this enterprise was the traditional Norwegian legend characters who represent “the other,” the “not-normal,” as a pretext to address the question of alterity. These legends’ characters were re-created as avatars in the metaverse, where they were also freely distributed in virtual installations as unfinished artifacts, open to mutation. In the Second Life virtual world, participants could pick up avatars and create their own stories through snapshots, machinima, etc. The physical performance later used these participants/produsers’ interpretations and narratives of the avatars in stage design and in the storytelling performance itself. We describe and analyse the main work method used for this project — a shared creative process of collective and distributed creativity. The project encompasses different forms of expression therefore we will also focus on how metaphors constitute themselves as paramount to our way of working.
